“When you learn how to read an EKG, you should learn it from a psychiatrist first,” one of the doctors told me during my training, “because if you go straight to a cardiologist, you’ll be totally lost.”
This is a great point and hopefully summarizes what we are trying to do here at runbikeclimb. Sometimes a knowledgable person can be a poor teacher, because it’s been so long since he was a beginner, he doesn’t remember what it was like before knowing the subject well. (Or doesn’t remember how to start from the beginning.) Eyegirl and I are not fitness experts by any stretch of the imagination. We can’t talk intelligently about VO2-max or lactate thresholds. But, hopefully what we can do is reflect on the things that have happened over the past year and share our progress from utter fitness beginners to – whatever is one notch up from utter fitness beginners – and report on what comes next. What we’ve figured out so far has been mostly by trial and error, but hopefully these stories will be of some use to other beginners in overcoming that toughest first step: getting started.
In general we will try to tell our story from the beginning, although we will interject some of our current fitness activities to keep things interesting. Preferably this will be somewhat reminiscent of a Tarantino movie rather than confusing, although we make no promises. Thanks for joining us!
